The roads to the west lead you into the Great Smoky Mountains and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park (one of the most visited national parks), lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors... hiking, camping, cabins, mountain music, river rafting, historic train rides, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, the outdoor drama Unto These Hills (summer), and more spectacular vistas on the Blue Ridge Parkway (which ends in Cherokee after starting in Northern Virginia). I-40 travels west across the U.S. from here.
